Happy Birthday, Danny!

A few days ago, I read THIS post on Facebook.  Immediately,  I knew that I had to make this sweet, little boy a card.  The inspiration was already there.... he loves Legos and Mario.  Although, I knew that finding a Mario stamp would never be in the cards  (pun intended!), the next best thing would be to just make him myself.  I think I pulled out EVERY punch that I own in the process too, but after a few trials and more than a few errors, I think he came out kinda cute.  So, voila, here he is...

If you would like to send a card to Danny too, here is the address:

It's Graduation Time Again!

Here we are again...... graduation season.  Boy, that always comes around fast!  I need to remind myself next winter to start making graduation cards in bulk!  I can never keep up!  Here are 2 cards that I made this week. They are both for college graduates.  One from the University of Michigan and one from THE Ohio State University.

I started out by drawing some light pencil lines diagonally on white cardstock to help with placement and then stamped "grad" in the alternating school colors.  The little graduation caps are stickers, but I put baby powder on the backs to "take the sticky off" and then popped them up with a pop dot.  The silver ink on the second card kept wanting to smear, so I needed to seal it.  I sprayed each card with Glitter Dust and that seemed to help.  The Glitter Dust is hard to see in the pictures, but it does give the cards a nice finish.

Supplies Used:
Grad stamp - MorningStar Rubber Stamps
Congratulations Graduate stamp - Hampton Art
Graduation Cap stickers - Sticko
Inks:  Harvest Gold (Papertrey Ink) Red Royal, Silver & Navy (Hero Arts)

April Papertrey Ink Blog Hop Challenge - Embroidered Inspiration

It's Blog Hop time again at Papertrey Ink!

Here is the challenge:

"If you take a look around, you can find inspiration in nearly anything!  This month we challenge you to look at embroidered patterns in a whole new light!  Look through your clothes, Pinterest, home decor catalogs or even the inspiration I have provided above and find an embroidered pattern that speaks to you.  Using the colors and design of the embroidery, build your own stamped version using your favorite floral stamps or other images.  No stitching required!  We just know that there will be some beautiful projects that stem from this!  Enjoy!"

Here is the photo that became my inspiration...

I think I was drawn to this image because of the circles.  For some reason, I have a thing for circles.   You can find them all over my house and most definitely in many forms in my craft stash!  They are so versatile and can be so much fun to use!  I didn't follow the "pattern" of the embroidery per se, but I liked the colors and the use of circles.   After I stamped all of the circles in the green and gold, I felt it still needed a "little something", so I added the little, black nailheads on all the yellow circles. Then, I was happy.  I did stray from the color scheme for the sentiment as I needed some pop from the busy background, so I went with the turquoise patterned paper and snipped the end into a banner.

So without further ado, here is my card:

The inside:

I am often stumped on what to do on the inside of a card, but I am pretty happy with this one.  I kept it simple by incorporating the circles from the front of the card and used them as a border on the side, added the sentiment and voila!  I had someone in mind while making this card, so it will soon be all dressed up in a stamped envelope and on its way to cheer up a sick friend.

Supplies Used:
Inks:  New Leaf,  Harvest Gold - Papertrey Ink,  Onyx Black - Versafine
Boy Basics Simple Circles - Papertrey Ink
Think Big Favorites #6 - Papertrey Ink
Sentiment - Verses Rubber Stamps
Metal stickers nailheads - Mark Richards

Come Sail Away!

Long time, no sea!  Get it?  Seriously, its been a long while since I've last posted.  My hope is to get in the habit of posting at least once a week, but that would require a little more time in my craft room and more time away from my crochet hook!  I learned to crochet about 6 months ago and let's just say I'm hooked!  Get it???   Gee, I'm on a roll today!

Here is a card that I made pretty recently.  I really like the way the sailboat hangs in the open circle, it adds a little bit of fun to the card.  It came together pretty quickly, the only challenge was finding the right circle die to match the inside size of the scalloped circle.  All of the patterned papers and the sailboat are from Doodlebug.

Here is a closer look at the way the twine is holding the sailboat.  I sandwiched the twine between the sailboat and a backing of the same blue cardstock as the card base.
